apartment crashing

For the first weekend in August, the Pilot was piled high with kids and gear and driven seven hours to Portland, Oregon. Uncle Chops and Mari currently reside just outside the city for Uncle Chops' summer internship with Intel. After arriving very early Friday (around 2 AM) and a quick wink of sleep, we spent the day at the Portland Zoo and later shopped at the outlets. For dinner, we ventured into the city for a "cultural" experience... food cart corner dining. I don't know how it works exactly, but somehow several food carts gather in a corner of the city one night, and the next night they are somewhere else? I don't know, but it was fun and delicious food and apparently trendy. Other trip highlights:
o Tillamook Factory Tour + cheese tasting - squeeky cheese + ice cream feast
o Cannon Beach picnic - rained out... not the warm kind of rain, either
o Seaside - renting Surrey's touring the roads
o Stopping for clam chowder and fish fest, chowing on our first crab
o Multnomah Falls - waiting one hour for parking; Also, an effective lesson on switchbacks, thanks to the clearly marked switchbacks on the trail. We hiked to the top of the falls!
o Dinner at the host's lovely apt. - temaki sushi and curry - yum!
o Tour of of Intel - all five buildings, after making it past the meticulous security guard... even Dallin received a visitor's badge.
o All six of us camping out in the living room; eight of us sharing the one bathroom. Thanks for a fantastic weekend Uncle Chops and Auntie Mari!!

That sounds like a blast! My Dad is retired from Intel! Chops must be a smart cookie! Tell all your cute kids "hi!"
