You're a grand old flag

{from the Eagle Field of Honor}

I forgot to mention our Memorial Day weekend! Oma & Papa drove out for a visit and we were thrilled to spend a couple days with them. Saturday they treated us to Cheesecake Factory - yum.

One thing the kids enjoy most is playing with Oma & Papa - girls to the dolls and boys to the legos.

Sunday we searched the Star Cemetery to find a "Buckmaster" headstone. My mom only had notes that a certain John Buckmaster lived in Star but no other details. So we walked each row in the cemetery hoping to find it. Starting to feel a little discouraged after half and hour with no luck, Mom talked to a visiting couple who knew of the name Buckmaster. They kindly pointed us to the older section of the cemetery and gave us a beautiful bunch of daisies. About 10 minutes later the headstone was found! There was only one Buckmaster in the entire cemetery! We wondered what became of the wife since she wasn't buried by her husband (and could not possibly still be alive.) I'm really happy the kids had the chance to experience family history.

Driving home from the Cemetery we marveled at the chance of finding a needle in a haystack, as it were. Mom said of finding the grave, "Well, of course we did. I said a prayer!"

BRUNEAU DUNES - the tallest dunes in North America

We hiked THE tallest dune in North America, roughly a two mile round trip, easy hike. The last part is killer steep, though, and for that we preferred bare feet sand massage.

Maddie lead us to the peak - it's so, so windy and steep

Ike thought crawling safer than upright walking

We braved the extreme wind and sand, caught the amazing view. Next came the best part of racing down! I safely tucked away the camera so no picture for this best part.

Catching tadpoles at the bottom of the dunes - all those little black spots are tadpoles - and until the mosquitos attacked, the kids happily sifted away.
