Labor Day weekend we kicked-off the camping season with a trip to nearby Bruneu Sand Dunes, which Ike and Dad talked up ever since their last year's Father Day campout. We camped on low-privacy grass. Setting up the tent was a breeze this year, thanks to the kids awesome help. The foil dinners took longer to cook, I think we ate at 8 PM, but we saw three horned owls fly into the tree right by our campsite! The Sand Dunes are the strangest place - there's a few dunes that don't look like much (and the campsite is pitiful) in the middle of sagebrush and plateaus. But once we actually PLAYED on the dunes - oh what fun! Dallin kept saying "big sand box!" He loved it, along with the rest who boogie-boarded down the huge hill. The next day, Labor Day, it rained and was windy so we did little other than attempt to cook breakfast, attempt to play on the dunes, pack up and go home. This trip was Dallin's first without a portacrib. With this new found freedom he bounced around on everyone's sleeping bags until finally settling down to sleep, although he refused to sleep IN a sleeping bag. (So we waited and snuck him in later, but he woke up in the middle of the night mad and kicked it off... he's pretty loyal to his "dainty":) We all slept pretty well and the family is super excited for more camping trips!
