Dallin celebrated a second birthday last weekend with a family birthday bash, complete with the traditional banner, balloons, and streamers (which he thoroughly ripped apart - no more putting them on his chair). The kids chose Spamoni Cake for him. I love how he blows things - in this instance candles, but in others its hot dinner or in my face - his bottom lip pouts up. He kept trying and trying so the girls took pity and helped out. Actually, they were a little anxious to dig in. While taking out the candles, he stretched to dip his finger slightly into the frosting and licked it, proclaiming, "mhhmmm" and then straightway did it again and again until we moved the cake farther away. For the past two weeks whenever we'd tell Dallin "It's your birthday soon!" he'd reply by singing " appy birtdee to oo!" It seems like he knew better than his siblings what to do with the cake and confidently forked bite after bite. Naturally, many hands helped Dallin unwrap gifts - he received balls and clothes. Dallin throws balls well, speaks well, carries around cars/trucks, and plays with pretend food. He sings some songs "ABC's or "Temple" he knows most of them, the others he bobs his head and chimes in when he knows. To get his way, he'll yell "stop" or "no thanks." He'll lift up his shirt and say "tickle." The bed routine includes tucking in Dallin first (with the red "danty" made by great-grandma), tucking in the monkey, making the money kiss Dallin, me kissing the monkey and saying "night night", me telling Dallin "love you," and then Dallin replying "luv oo, mama." If any of the these steps are omitted he lets me know (monkey kiss or tuck, until every part of his body is tucked). Such a fantastic age. Earlier in the day, while waiting for Marvin to finish up a long business meeting, the kids and I ventured to the Park and Library for some fun.
